Protecting Yourself from Scams

It is increasingly more common that we hear that our clients have been falsely contacted by places like the ATO, banks or investment companies. It is often hard to tell the difference between a real investment platform and a fake one.

Cybercrime is continually evolving and targeting people in more sophisticated and creative ways than ever before. With more people working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cyber attacks have sky-rocketed over the past 3 years.

Here are some of the latest stats on cybercrime from the Annual Cyber Threat Report 2022 from the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC):

    • In 2021, the ACSC received over 76,000 cybercrime reports, an increase of nearly 13% from the previous financial year.
    • Queensland and Victoria report disproportionately higher rates of cybercrime.
    • Cyberattack attempts reached an all-time high in the fourth quarter of 2021.

By keeping up to date with the latest scam trends and increasing your awareness of cybercrime, you are steps ahead to ‘scam proofing’ yourself.
